Aer Lingus employees start petition for state aid

Editorial

Employees of the Irish flag carrier Aer Lingus have launched a petition to bring state aid to the airline, which is one of the few European national carriers which has not yet recieved state aid.

The petition calls on the Irish government to provide financial support for Aer Lingus during the corona crisis or to abolish the quarantine measure. Currently, people from only fifteen European countries are allowed to travel to Ireland without having to self-isolate. As a result, the demand for flights to Ireland has collapsed.

Aer Lingus staff are angry with the Irish government because Aer Lingus is one of the few European national carriers that has not received State aid. Last week, the company announced that redundancies could not be ruled out.

The transfer market is very important to Aer Lingus. The airline normally transports hundreds of travelers from different European cities to different American cities every day. However, this is no longer possible due to travel restrictions.
