An Airbus team has introduced a proposal by which A330s and A340s can be converted into flying intensive care units. The aircraft are capable of carrying COVID-19 patients in intensive care over a long-range distance.
An interdepartmental Airbus team has proposed a solution to quickly convert passenger aircraft into a Medical-Evacuation (“MEDEVAC”) configuration to offer to customers worldwide. In six weeks, the team defined solutions based on the A330/A340 platform which is capable of carrying COVID-19 patients in intensive care over a long-range distance. The concept has been subsequently fine-tuned and Airbus is now in a position to offer a solution to any customers wishing to perform MEDEVAC operations.
