Expansion plans for London City Airport’s terminal and the construction of a new pier have been cancelled for the time being due to the coronavirus crisis. The number of flights is still far below the 2019 level.
Some other projects will be continued, however. A number of projects regarding infrastructure and capacity are set to be completed by the end of this year. There will be eight new aircraft stands for Airbus A220s and Embraer 190-E2s, for example. There will also be a parallel taxiway, which will increase capacity to a maximum of 45 flights per hour.
New immigration facilities are due to open by early September, including ten new ‘E-gates’. The airport wants to allow passengers to travel faster this way. In addition, the construction of a new baggage facility with increased capacity and new security screening technologies will be operational next summer.
