Alaska Airlines is set to join airline alliance Oneworld on March 31st, 2021. The US carrier expects to have made all preparations to become a member of the international alliance by then. Oneworld currently consists of thirteen members.
In February, it was announced that Alaska Airlines wants to join Oneworld. Until now, no date was known on which the actual accession will take place. In addition to Alaska Airlines, regional subsidiaries Horizon Air and SkyWest Airlines will also join the alliance.
Alaska Airlines is already working closely with six Oneworld carriers: American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Japan Airlines and Qantas. The airline also codeshares with Oneworld partner member Fiji Airways.
The entry gives regionally oriented Alaska Airlines access to the global Oneworld network. Conversely, Alaska is adding 34 new destinations to the Oneworld network. The airline has bases in Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Portland and Anchorage and maintains a route network of 115 destinations.
