Airbus wants to increase production of the A320 family from July 2021, from 40 to probably 47 aircraft per month. Suppliers are already asked to prepare for this increase in demand.
The news was first reported by the Financial Times based on conversations with insiders. It has now also been confirmed by Airbus. The manufacturer emphasizes that no final decision has yet been taken, but that it is the ambition to increase production by the summer of 2021.
Due to the coronavirus crisis, production of the A320 family was reduced from 60 to 40 aircraft per month earlier this year. Airbus now estimates a brighter future, allowing for an increase of production. The company does not consider a complete return to the old level feasible.
