Qantas CEO: Vaccination Will Be Mandatory

Editorial

The Australian airline Qantas will only welcome passengers on international flights who have been vaccinated against the coronavirus said CEO Alan Joyce on Monday in an interview with the TV program A Current Affair. He expects airlines to introduce a similar policy in the rest of the world.

According to Joyce, Qantas is now looking at how the transport conditions can be adjusted, so that there will soon be a legal basis for refusing passengers who have not been vaccinated. That will in any case happen on international flights, the CEO does not yet know whether it will also be introduced on domestic flights. It is unclear how Qantas will check whether someone has been vaccinated.

Although a vaccination obligation for international travelers offers opportunities to get aviation back on track more quickly, there is also a lot of criticism of this plan. For example, people would be indirectly forced to take a vaccine.
