American F-18s have carried out multiple airstrikes in Yemen. President Donald Trump is reinforcing his ultimatum: “hell will rain.”
Since Saturday evening, U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered a series of airstrikes on Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen. He vowed to use “overwhelming lethal force” until the Iran-backed rebels cease their attacks on international shipping. These strikes have now materialized in the form of a large-scale bombardment by F-18s from the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower. The Houthis report that at least 31 people have been killed and 101 injured in the attacks.
Trump stated on social media that U.S. forces are conducting targeted strikes on rebel military bases, leaders, and missile defense systems. “No terrorist force will prevent American commercial and naval ships from sailing freely on the world’s waterways,” Trump said. He warned Iran to stop supporting the Houthis and threatened to hold the country “fully responsible” for their actions.
According to eyewitnesses, the airstrikes targeted the capital Sanaa and the northern province of Saada, a key Houthi stronghold. Attacks were also reported in Hodeida, Bayda, and Marib. Footage circulating online shows plumes of smoke rising above the Sanaa airport complex.
A U.S. official stated that the airstrikes will continue, while the Houthis vow not to be deterred and to retaliate. It remains unclear whether only F-18s will be used for these bombings. Previously, the U.S. deployed large strategic bombers, such as the B-52, against targets in Yemen.
