Airbus has offered 84 Airbus A220s to LOT Polish Airlines, which has been looking for new aircraft for some time.
Benoit de Saint-Exupéry, VP of commercial aircraft sales at Airbus, confirmed over the weekend that the manufacturer has made a formal proposal. “Our offer includes both the A220-100 and A220-300. As far as we know, LOT wants to finalize the procurement process quickly, ideally within a few months.” He added that the sooner a decision is made, the better it will be for the airline.
Meanwhile, LOT is also in talks with Embraer regarding the possible purchase of 84 Embraer E2 aircraft. Airbus’s offer comes a year after the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it would begin discussions with aircraft manufacturers about acquiring new planes. “The company faces the decision of whether to continue working with its current aircraft supplier (Embraer) in the regional segment or switch to a competing platform (Airbus),” the ministry stated in 2024.
Fleet
LOT currently operates 86 aircraft, with more than half of its fleet consisting of Embraer jets. Following the ministry’s announcement, the airline signed a leasing agreement with Azorra Aviation for three Embraer 195-E2s, which have been flying for LOT since last summer.
Although no final decision has been made, it appears likely that LOT will opt for the 84 new aircraft from the Brazilian manufacturer, continuing its long-standing relationship with Embraer.
