A Boeing 737 was scheduled to depart from Hamburg to Hurghada (Egypt) on Saturday. However, passengers had to wait a little longer before their vacation could begin.
Air Cairo is currently using two 737-800s from Ukrainian airline SkyUp. One of the aircraft, registration UR-SQC, was scheduled to operate the flight to Hurghada. Flight SM2971 was initially planned to depart on Saturday at 14:40. The aircraft was pushed back from the gate on time, but after ten minutes, it was parked back in the same spot. The 737 could not depart due to a technical issue.
The flight was initially delayed by eighteen hours to Sunday at 09:00, but that time was also moved, this time to 12:00. Eventually, the departure was delayed for the fourth time. On Monday morning, the aircraft finally left for Egypt, almost forty hours later, at around 7:30 AM. According to Air Cairo, the disruption was due to unscheduled maintenance work.
Cathay Pacific
Earlier this year, an Airbus A350 from Cathay Pacific also arrived two days late at its destination. The aircraft was en route from Toronto (Canada) to Hong Kong when it diverted to Keflavik Airport (Iceland) due to a medical emergency over the east coast of Greenland. To avoid exceeding the allowable working hours, the Airbus flew back to Toronto. Ultimately, the flight arrived in Hong Kong 54 hours after the original arrival time.
