A suspicious package was found in one of the aircraft toilets on board a British Airways Boeing 777. This happened during a routine maintenance check of the plane.
Originating in Orlando, Florida, the British Airways Boeing 777 had arrived at London Gatwick Airport just before the discovery. The plane was subsequently towed into a hangar. An airline technician then discovered a ‘block of cocaine’ while removing some panels near the toilet. The authorities were immediately alerted.
The UK Border Force and the National Crime Agency have launched an investigation. The estimated value of the drugs is approximately one hundred thousand British pounds. According to an insider’s source, the cocaine was ‘well hidden’ and was intended to be collected by someone later. It is suspected that an airport or airline employee hid the block on board the British Airways plane. Authorities do not yet know how long the drugs had been hidden beneath the panel.
Mexico
The news comes shortly after another incident involving drugs onboard a British Airways aircraft. On April 8th, Mexican border police interrupted the boarding process for flight BA2202 at Cancun Airport. The authorities directed all passengers back to the gate. After a brief search, drugs were found in one of the pieces of luggage loaded onto the aircraft. Subsequently, two members of the cabin crew were arrested. After a thorough search, the plane was only able to depart for the United Kingdom 26 hours later.
